5 Ways to Work Out for Free

If you’re tired of spending money on a gym membership you never use, you’re not alone. Fitness centers can be expensive, noisy, and crowded. But that’s no excuse to stay home. There are plenty of ways to work out for free. Get your heart pumping, your muscles working, and your sweat pouring, all without spending a dime.

  • Work Out for Free at Home with an Online Video
The internet is full of free, high-quality workouts that will get you whipped into shape in no time. And you can do them all in the comfort and privacy of your living room. Turn on the tv, throw on your shoes (or go barefoot - it’s your choice!), and get your sweat on without ever stepping foot outside your home. Here are some great videos to get you started.

  • Walking, Jogging, or Running
Nothing is easier than using your own two legs to get fit. Walking, jogging, or running can be done just about anywhere. Throw on a good pair of sneakers and head outside. Not only will you get the health benefits of cardio activity, but you can also enjoy the fresh air and soak up some Vitamin D in the process.

  • Playground Workouts
Do you take your kids to the park after school? Or drive past a playground on your way home? Put that equipment to good use! Here are a few exercises you can do at the playground:
    • Pull-ups on the monkey bars
    • Push-ups on the playground stairs (feet on the ground for less intensity, hands on the ground and feet on the stairs for a bigger challenge).
    • Walking squats around the perimeter
    • Two-foot jump onto a stair, bench, or other hard surfaces
    • Vertical leg lifts from monkey bars
    • Tricep dips on the park bench

  • Dance Party
Who says workouts have to be dull and difficult? Throw on your favorite music, crank up the volume, and dance like nobody’s watching. Dancing can easily burn just as many calories as a long run or a kickboxing class. And you’ll feel great after you’re done. Invite your kids or your spouse to join in!

  • Good Old-Fashioned Team Fun
As adults, we tend to think team sports have to be sanctioned. It’s the company co-ed softball team, a local soccer league, or the rec center’s basketball team. But there is no rule that says adult sports have to be endorsed, competitive, or require a fee.

Find your inner child, and get together a group of friends to play a game of basketball. Take the family to the local tennis court. Gather your neighbors or co-workers for an impromptu 3v3 soccer match at the local park. You’ll love making fitness fun, and you’ll make some great memories along the way.
